Founded in 2005 by President and Executive Producer Nanette Asher, Queens Shakespeare, Inc. is a not-for-profit professional non-union theatrical company, a blend of professional and educational theatre which serves Queens County and the greater New York City area. Its aim is to act as a laboratory for actors of all ages and experience levels to explore classical works and to perform in fully produced, accessible, innovative, and entertaining productions alongside professional actors, directors, and production staff. Primarily focusing on classical material the company produces 2-3 full length productions each year and performs at multiple theatres throughout Queens County and Manhattan. Each season one production is developed as an educational tour which is then presented at different venues throughout the state. Producing and touring in this fashion allows the company to actively contribute to the growth and vibrancy of the developing Queens arts scene while at the same time introducing classical works to children and adults of all ages through the educational tour.
